The base of the hair and hair growth cells are destroyed making hair regrowth impossible
The term electrolysis branded the process of permanent hair removal and is used to describe all methods of permanent hair removal dating back since 1875. Electrolysis also known as galvanic current is one of the modalities used to remove hair by producing a chemical reaction in the follicle.
The electrologist inserts a small probe/needle into the natural opening of the hair follicle using the “blend” or “dual action” which entails the simultaneous use of direct current and low-intensity high-frequency current to effectively eliminate hair
Yes! Electrolysis is the only FDA approved method to remove hair permanently. However, if you have any underlying issues it is recommended you see a physician or endocrinologist before starting treatments.
Eyebrows, ears, nose, upper lip, chin, neck, cheeks, hairline (front or back), arms, legs, toes, hands, underarms, chest, back, breast, bikini, and belly button/stomach area. Any place the hair grows can be treated with electrolysis, although some areas on the face and body would be more sensitive than others.
Laser beams highly concentrated light into hair follicles, impairing the hair follicles resulting in permanent hair reduction and not permanent hair removal as with electrolysis. Electrolysis can be done no matter the skin tone and hair color. Unlike Laser, which is more efficacious on dark hair, if the hair begins to lose its natural color (pigment) laser treatments would not work.
Hirsutism (excessive hair growth) can occur in women. Some women are diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) which can be one of the factors for female facial hair growth. If you are male or female affected by unwanted hair anywhere on your face or body electrolysis may be right for you.
Anyone with a pacemaker or defibrillator cannot receive electrolysis treatments unless they have written permission from their physician. There are diseases, medications, and skin conditions that could raise concerns to the electrologist such as warts or metal in the body. Therefore, a consultation is required prior to receiving service and completing a health history assessment. We understand this information is personal and assure it will remain confidential.
Electrolysis treatments sting, but individual’s tolerance varies greatly. Even the most sensitive person should be able to tolerate the treatments. The sting from the treatment is quick and then it is over in seconds. Topical antiseptic lotion (numbing cream) can be applied to assist in the client’s comfort.
Yes. Unwanted hair can be caused by hormone changes and pregnancy can cause those changes. However, the Electrologist may suggest that you seek the advice of your physician before starting treatments.
Yes. A concern to the electrologist if a client is diabetic, is the amount of time it would take for the skin to heal, maybe longer than the normal 3 to 4 weeks.
Before your appointment you will need to have visible hair to receive service, allowing two to three days of growth before your appointment is necessary. Do not wax, shave, tweeze or use any temporary hair removal methods. If you are a coffee lover, caffeine acts as a stimulant and can increase sensitivity. Avoid drinking coffee a day before treatment.
Immediately after treatment the skin will appear red (erythema) and swollen around the treated area. This should not last long at all, maybe a few hours. A cold press or ice can be applied to the skin. Days after, eschers commonly found on the body will appear which are honey crust scabs which indicate the follicle is healing properly. In between appointments it is acceptable to shave or clip the hair that is visible at the surface of the skin if desired to maintain well-groomed appearance. After care instructions will be given to each client.
The number of treatments vary with each client, and how much hair is needing to be gone. Keep in mind, hairs have different growth cycles, many are not visible on the surface of the skin at the same time. Electrolysis will require multiple treatments until all the unwanted hair is gone.
